Purpose of the Project:

This project has a many faceted approach to support a multigenerational community to raise aspiration and standards of lifestyle. The primary purpose of this Social & Community Enterprise is to address the health, social, and economic challenges faced by both; the growing ageing population and the youth, while fostering intergenerational collaboration. By developing a café with a home kitchen and creating green spaces for physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and social interaction, the project aims to improve retirees’ overall quality of life, reduce the prevalence of chronic illnesses like heart disease and Alzheimer's, reducing loneliness and isolation whilst providing dignity and respect.  In addition to this, we will endeavour to empower young people through the same support mechanisms for mental health and well-being but also to provide skill-building workshops in leadership, management, financial awareness thereby enhancing their employment opportunities.  Despite not addressing specific groups of people, single, stay at home parents per se, the project is wholly inclusive and welcomes everyone.  The workshops, activities and spaces will benefit the whole community and embrace need.

Objectives:

  • Promote physical activity among retirees to improve mobility, heart health and reduce chronic illness.
  • Enhance cognitive health through workshops (arts and crafts) and social engagement, reducing the risks of Alzheimer's and loneliness.
  • Promote mental well-being in young people through targeted workshops.
  • Empower young people by providing access to work experience, skill-building opportunities, and employment prospects.
  • Reduce the strain on healthcare services by focusing on preventative health measures (healthy eating, reducing isolation, mobility).
  • Strengthen the local economy through job creation and support for businesses.
  • Foster intergenerational connections to bridge societal divides and enhance community cohesion.
  • To provide sponsorships for education, financial health and care.
  • To become a green and sustainable hub for the community whose tenacles reach world-wide in providing educational and financial support.
  • To become carbon net zero within ten years of inception.
  • To provide a green “open space” for people to just be.
  • To provide a high-end, low-cost green venue for existing provisions and community organisations to work with the local community.

Unique Value to the Community:

This initiative stands out for its intergenerational approach, offering mutual benefits for the ageing and youth. While retirees gain access to activities that improve their physical and mental health, young people benefit from real-world experiences and advice that enhances their employability. The ageing generation will be pivotal in providing guidance, advice and workshops for young people.  The young people will be transformative in upskilling the ageing population and providing much needed support and respect.  This will be a symbiotic relationship.

Additionally, the project will serve as a strategic investment in preventative health across the age groups, alleviating pressure on local healthcare services and reducing long-term costs. The integration of a café, allotments, workshops, and recreational spaces adds a layer of sustainability and inclusivity that strengthens the social fabric of the Midlands community. Fresh produce sourced either from site or locally will be used in the café and food workshops; waste food and used coffee grounds will be refined and added to the allotments to complete the cycle. By fostering social cohesion, combating isolation, and stimulating economic growth, this project positions itself as a model for holistic community development.  An electric minibus: powered by onsite solar cells, will move us towards Carbon Net Zero.

In conclusion, this project is a sustainable, strategic investment in the Midlands' social, health, and economic well-being. By empowering retirees and youth alike, it seeks to create a thriving community that exemplifies inclusivity, vitality, and resilience.
